Is there a trick for it? I've tried building only the floor and building the walls and floor, but in both cases the stupid plot keeps rocketing around and changing orientation basically to every way but the one I want. The only thing that sort of works is getting it aligned on one axis, placing it, then moving it very carefully. Still time consuming, but less so.Also, why residential plots?
I could fit four or five beds in the same footprint, and given how space intensive all the exterior plots are they seem really wasteful unless you want to build high rises. There actually is a trick to interior plots. Two of them, in fact (according to kinggath's tutorial videos). The first is that the interior plot snapping is weird - it requires one wall snapping point to be empty.
So if you're having trouble placing it on a snappable area, try removing one of the side walls and re-snapping it in place. The second trick: for putting them into non-snappable interiors (like vanilla buildings) you'll want to use the Place Everywhere mod. Once you have that working, it's pretty easy to get it into the right position.
